D5100 Field Test - KL Bird Park

December 21st, 2011 | Bob Tahar

This is an outing to test my newly acquired Nikon D5100. I sold my D90 to buy this because I have the D7000 but got problem matching the color between D90 & D7000 when used them together for photography job. Since D5100 used the same sensor and the same technology (even better) as D7000, I decide to purchase this camera.

I love the color reproduction of D7000 especially on blue & red and the D5100 offers similar result. The high ISO control that I see is way better than D90 and nearly as good as D7000. Another main reason for me to buy this camera is for Video work… a backup camera for D7000, even it doesn’t have full manual control on video… but I manage to work around it.

Nikon has skimp down the control button on D5100, but from past experience with D40 & D5000, its a no biggie for me… changing setting is a breeze. I also bought The Octopus 3rd Party Battery Grip, due to it small size and my big hand. The grip fit perfectly and work flawlessly.

All and all, I satisfied with this purchase.. a recommended buy for a beginner and enthusiast alike.

All images shot with Nikkor 70-300 VR.

Singapore Zoo

October 31st, 2010 | Bob Tahar

Nowadays, when people want to go to Singapore… first thing come in their minds is the Universal Studio Movie World. For me… Singapore Zoo has always been my Singapore’s main attraction. It’s a big zoo… walking inside it… like walking in the jungle… most of the non fierce animals were left out in a open. Some exotic small monkeys are free to roam around the zoo… you might find one or two monkey wondering around in a toilet. The best thing… I can interact with free roaming sloth, lemurs & flying foxes. The main star of the zoo is the white tiger… beautiful cat!

All images captured with Olympus Pen E-PL1 attached with kit 14-42mm & 40-150 kit lens.

Photo Outing @ Zoo Negara

November 4th, 2007 | Bob Tahar

This was my photo outing with some ‘fellas’ photographer. Last visit I made was about a 1 1/2 year ago to enter photography competition which I won consolation price. That time I’m still using FZ20. Nothing much changes except for the parking & entrance fees hike.

All images captured with Sigma 70-200mm F2.8. I should used my Sigma 18-200mm OS there… I got a lot of blurry images.

Lens Test Sigma 70-200mm F2.8 APO EX HSM @ KL Bird Park

June 3rd, 2007 | Bob Tahar

This would be my 2nd time here… but a bit disappointing that the species variation seems to be lesser than before. Most noticeable was The Mandarin Duck, its gone!

However, the main reason I went there was to test my newly acquired lens, the Sigma 70-200mm F2.8 APO EX (Non-DG). The glass, the quality, the sharpness, the focus speed and of course the bokeh are superb. A bit soft at wide open but great end to end at F4.0.

I also combine it with Tamron 1.4x SP AF Teleconverter. The lens work great with it, AF works at all length but some focus creep and hunting at the long end. It also add 1 stop on aperture but the camera didn’t detect it and this problem was acknowledged by Tamron.

Next I will test it on sport, the main reason why I got the lens.

KL Aqua Raya

October 29th, 2006 | Bob Tahar
